Electrophysiologic Measures In Bilateral Cochlear Implant Users

Firszt, J

Binaural interaction has been observed in human brainstem and cortically evoked auditory potentials of normal hearing listeners. Although a large number of rofoundly hearing impaired individuals have received bilateral cochlear implants, little is known about binaural interaction via electrical stimulation.
The purpose of this study was to investigate brainstem, middle latency and cortically evoked potentials in the same experimental subject to assess binaural interaction. Subjects were either bilateral, MED-EL cochlear implant recipients or normal hearing controls. Differences between binaural interaction in the auditory potentials that extend from the brainstem to the cortex for studied subjects will be presented.
