The OPUS 1 system is built for today’s busy
lifestyles, providing functional technology that delivers true
convenience and peace of mind. With the MED-EL system, cochlear
implant users can simply put the OPUS 1 in place and continue
their day-to-day life.
Long Battery Life
MED-EL’s patented power-efficient technology is designed
to deliver the longest battery life of any speech processor on
the market, without sacrificing system performance (mapping levels,
stimulation rate, sound coding strategy, etc.). Most patients
receive 3-5 days of use on a single set of batteries. And, with
a variety of battery pack options available, OPUS 1 users can
purchase disposable or rechargeable batteries wherever batteries
are sold.
Water protection of MED-EL speech processors
To minimize the effects of moisture on electronic components, the circuit boards used in MED-EL speech processors are uniquely coated to effectively shield the electronic components. Additionally, MED-EL employs connectors that are treated with specially developed water repellent lubricants. The optimized device housing is designed to act as a barrier to fluids and water vapour but is not hermetically sealed – this prevents corrosion much more effectively, as it allows any internal moisture to dry out rather than remain trapped inside.
These measures represent the most effective solution available today for protection of speech processors from moisture related damage.
SoundGuard™
The OPUS 1 continuously monitors its programmed maps for data
inconsistencies, such as those that can result from ESD or static
electricity. If a problem is detected, the SoundGuard feature
stops stimulation and the Status Light flashes. In most cases,
all mapping data can be restored by turning the system off and
then on again, thus eliminating the need to visit an audiologist
to reload the maps.
Status Light
The OPUS 1 offers a built-in Status Light that will blink when
the processor needs special attention. Various blinking patterns
indicate the type of attention that may be required (i.e, needs
new batteries). This feature, along with the Speech Processor
Test Device, helps patients, parents, therapists and teachers
verify that the OPUS 1 is functioning correctly.
Exceptional
Comfort and Control
The OPUS 1 system is designed to be so easy to wear that users
may forget it’s there.
The
flexible coil cable isn’t bulky or stiff, so it moves easily.
The
earhooks come in a range of sizes that can be molded with heat
to provide a custom fit.
The
OPUS 1 also provides separate controls for volume and sensitivity
settings, so users don’t have to choose between the two.
The
system can store up to nine different maps, enabling the user
to customize the OPUS 1 for any purpose and environment.
The
omni-directional microphone picks up sound from any direction, just like the normal-hearing
ear.
